Few medical studies have been run on the effectiveness of pine-tar soap to treat psoriasis. The New Zealand Dermatological Society's online database, DermNet NZ, includes both coal-tar and pine-tar products on its list of suggested topical remedies. It notes that while tar products boast long histories treating psoriasis, it remains unclear why they provide relief. According to the society, tar products work best to relieve chronic plaque psoriasis, which usually affects the scalp, lower back, knees and elbows.

CONSIDERATIONS

Tar products may irritate your skin; test a small amount on a small patch of your skin before using pine-tar homemade soap liberally. DermNet NZ warns that using the soap just before going outside may make your skin more sensitive to UV rays, potentially resulting in sunburn.

ALTERNATIVE HOME REMEDIES

MayoClinic.com's recommended home remedies include oatmeal baths, aloe vera gel, or capsaicin --- chili pepper --- ointment. Over-the-counter ointments containing hydrocortisone or salicylic acid may also be more effective than pine-tar soap, or may complement the soap as a treatment. Again, check with your doctor or dermatologist for guidance.

Only use  creosote free pine tar for homemade soap. 

Today, many doctors prescribe the use of pine tar soap as topical medicine for some skin diseases as it possesses anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.  Pine tar is being widely used against skin psoriasis.  People who have dry skin can also benefit from pine tar homemade soap.  The natural oil of pine wood is retained during carbonization and it could help your skin by adding moisture to it during application.

Eczema and Psoriasis

Pine tar homemade soap has been used for over 100 years to treat eczema, psoriasis and other forms of dermatitis.  It moisturizes dry, scaly skin and helps it heal.  Pine tar homemade soap is safe to use anywhere on the face and body, and is also used as a shampoo.

Pine tar products can heal severely irritated skin associated with the chronic skin conditions eczema and psoriasis.  Both psoriasis and eczema lesions can be thick, red and scaly, but eczema also commonly appears as moist and oozing sores. 

Pine tar is a natural way to relieve skin of the discomfort associated with dermatophyte infections.  Topical and oral medications that treat the infections may have side effects such as blistering, dryness, itching, and rashes.  Pine tar is a natural remedy to relieve these discomforts.

Rashes, Allergies, Poison Ivy, Poison Oak and Poison Sumac

Pine tar products are beneficial for healing rashes caused by poison ivy, poison sumac and poison oak.  It also can be used for relieving symptoms of contact dermatitis, or skin allergic reactions caused by various substances.    Washing the affected area can stop the itch and dry the rash, speeding healing.Veterinarians use pine tar oil to treat mange and other pet skin disorders. 

Dandruff

Pine tar is an ingredient in certain brands of shampoo which treats and helps prevent seborrheic dermatitis, a scalp condition that leads to dandruff. 

Insect Repellent

It has bee reported that the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers used pine tar as their insect repellent of choice before World War II.  Daily use of pine tar soap soothed the skin and kept it healthy can while it provided protection against mosquito, tick, chiggers, and other insect bites.
